Farm Journal’s Dairy Today ranks western Kansas as the top dairy area in the USA
An article ranked dairy areas in Idaho, near I-29 in the Dakotas and Minnesota, the Ogalala Aquifer area including western Kansas and the Indiana / Ohio / Michigan region. Western Kansas’ total evaluation score topped all areas.
Western Kansas ranked highest in ease of permitting and regulations, community acceptance, and feed quality and costs.
It topped all other areas in land availability and low cost, water availability and low costs, low utility costs and had some of the best state incentives and low taxes.
The article also cited the area for available investor funding. Labor availability and reasonable labor costs also scored high. Low urbanization/population density also make western Kansas a dairy-friendly area.
